I think Kendrick is average defensively at this point, with the potential to be above average even good, but probably never a gold glove. Grich is undoubtedly the best all-time Angel 2B, but Kendrick could surpass that given five years or so.

As for defense in this series, it is hard to factor in when looking at statistical records. I would have had to see every player play to assess their defense, which I haven't, so I'm keeping it secondary. I'll try to include a bit more in future installments.Jonny Bardohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10293446193436081296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7026253508517273511.post-48049658791541477272007-11-20T15:04:00.000-08:002007-11-20T15:04:00.000-08:00Jonny, good work, the series is excellent so far.I...Jonny, good work, the series is excellent so far.

I'm surprised there's so little talk about defense in your piece. I've always thought of 2B as one of those "up the middle" positions where defense is about as important as offense. Grich was outstanding (you mentioned his GGs).

In your mind, how does Kendrick compare in the defensive category to Grich and other Angels? Well enough to make him the best ever 2B in team history?

Keep up the good work!Michael James Gwaltneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11607238622123946714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7026253508517273511.post-68077280638048224722007-11-16T19:26:00.000-08:002007-11-16T19:26:00.000-08:00Sorry Rob. Perhaps I should do a bit of both next time? Of course I remember Grich but not Knoop, other than his statistical record (best defensive Angels second baseman ever, or would that go to Kennedy?).Jonny Bardohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10293446193436081296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7026253508517273511.post-66244715898228100852007-11-16T12:09:00.000-08:002007-11-16T12:09:00.000-08:00Nice job Jonny. We are still amidst the best era ever to be an Angels fan...the only threat to that being if they glut the farm system to bring in a trade.Jonny Bardohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10293446193436081296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7026253508517273511.post-60682455646921830732007-11-16T09:39:00.000-08:002007-11-16T09:39:00.000-08:00Good stuff Johnny! I remember the Justin Baughman era of 2B's that we went through after Grich was done as an Angel.Chuck Richterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16524323683250425461noreply@blogger.com
