Visualizing the flapping dwarf arms attached to Robb Quinlan, as he waddles down the first base line after hitting a weak ground ball to third base, to the sound of Terry Smith’s voice sure beats listening to a co-worker yap about her deadbeat husband and misbehaved offspring.
But it’s not something I want to do in prime time after a long day of integration reports and convention planning. At least not when it happened during a meaningless Spring Training game.
As far as Arte Moreno has taken the Angels by ensuring every game of the regular season is televised and by purchasing and building an Angels radio station, it is beyond frustrating that the Angels spring training games remain tape-delayed, to be aired at 6 p.m. nightly.
I don’t pretend to understand the radio business nor the bottom line financial implications of carrying live Cactus League action, but I do know that after a long day of work spent away from our family, friends, girlfriends and wives, tuning into KLAA in time to hear Reggie Willits take a called strike three is pretty low on our list of priorities – especially when many of us already know he struck out in that at-bat, six hours earlier.
Games in March are meaningless. By the time 6 o’clock rolls around, we have already hit the Internet to check up on our favorite Angels’ youngsters. There really couldn’t be less incentive to listen.
I say do it live or don’t do it at all.

Yes, I agree that the games should be done live. However, evidently, they cannot do it (even though the Angels own the station because of contracts that they have with the pill pushers and gold boomers that have purchased time on the station. Evidently the income Arte receives from these spurious folk is larger than the adverising fees he can get for Spring Training Baseball.
But for me, the real problem is that I cannot recieve the 830 AM broadcasts in my home at night. They reduce power at Sunset and the broadcast simply fades away into the ether. So it's the internet for me, and I'm stuck in front of the computer. I can't go to the store or to the postoffice (we do not get mail delivery here) with my walkman ... if it is not broadcasted during the day, there is no radio broadcasts for me.
Just for the curious, I live in Running Springs. You would think I'd have good reception at 6200 feet above sea level. Unfortunately, the mountain rises to about 6500 feet between my home and a direct line to the radio transmitter above the Santa Ana Canyon.
According to Gary Lycan of the OC Register the Angels will likely be simulcasting their games on KFWB this summer.
