Winners Will Sing the National Anthem at a 66ers Game This Season

San Bernardino, CA – The Inland Empire 66ers are looking for the most talented singers and musicians in the Inland Empire to help the 66ers, Class ‘A’ Partner of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, salute the “Stars and Stripes” by singing the National Anthem at 66ers home games this year. Come showcase your talents and try to sing your way into the ballpark on Saturday, March 5th at 10AM at Inland Center Mall.

Interested individuals and groups should be ready to be discovered in the Center Court area of Inland Center Mall. Registration begins at 10:00 AM. The event will run until 2 PM or until all interested parties present have had a chance to perform, whichever comes first.

Participants can either sing or play the National Anthem at the event. Any individual or group playing the national anthem must be able to transport their instruments by hand. No sheet music or lyric pages are allowed, and no pre-recorded background music will be permitted. Performances must be limited to 90 seconds or less.

Once Bernie and the gang have made their decisions, Inland Empire’s best performers will be selected to “Advance to the Show” and perform in front of a packed house at Arrowhead Credit Union Park just moments before the first pitch of an exciting Inland Empire 66ers game.

The Inland Empire 66ers 2011 season begins on Thursday, April 7th when the California League partners of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim host the rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Reserve a date for your upcoming group event or get season tickets for the upcoming 2011 season by contacting the 66ers front office at (909) 888-9922.

So, the first episode of Willy’s Wire on AngelsWin.com came and went. It was the first chance for the fans to pose their questions directly to the Angels Director of Scouting Ric Wilson (aka Willy). As we eagerly await our next update from him, let’s look back at some of the things we learned today.

First off, we learned that Ric Wilson is one class act. While on the road, he juggled his schedule to fit in a chat to talk with the fans. Considering that he is still getting himself established into his new position, preparing for this year’s draft, making some changes to the Angels’ scouting department, and crisscrossing the country, that says a lot about his dedication to the fans and the organization.

Second, we learned that an hour is still not enough time to get in all the questions! In our chat, we had 25 questions from 16 different people asked and answered. The queue was lined up with so many questions that getting to everyone was a challenge. Apparently the fans are ready for baseball after a long winter off—even if that means logging into a chat at 9 am!

Third, we learned that Willy’s had a hand in landing a lot of the current Angels’ talent, and he expects a big year out of several prospects. But, like Eddie Bane before him, Willy isn’t going to tip his hand too much about which way he’s looking for the first pick in 2011. We know it’s a deep draft and the scouting season is just underway, but we know he’ll get all the talent ranked and organized by draft day.

Lastly, we learned that there’s no place that the Angels won’t go this year to find their talent—even Wayne, Oklahoma (and don’t go asking about the ground rule doubles there!). They are boosting their international scouting division and will be aggressive around the globe to bring in premiere talent.

By Brent Hubbard - AngelsWin.com Columnist

A few days ago, I was lucky to be in attendance for the Inland Empire 66ers – Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Affiliation Celebration, representing Angelswin.com. As you may know, the Angels switched affiliations of their High-A California League minor league club from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to the Inland Empire 66ers, in effect trading affiliations with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Angels had been with the Quakes for ten seasons; Many of the players now on the Angels had called the Epicenter home during their High-A Seasons. As such the Epicenter seemed like the minor league home to many Angels fans, being the closest minor league team to the Angels. Yet Arrowhead Credit Union Ballpark is a great place to catch a game as well and will quickly seem like seem like home to many of the Angels minor leaguers and to all of the Angels minor league fans when the season starts on April 7th.

The first thing I noticed after arriving at the ballpark was how nice the place was kept up. It is really a great stadium inside and out. The familiar Angels “A” logo was everywhere.

As I was escorted into the clubhouse, I noticed the entire thing had been painted red. Red was everywhere.
