Jered Weaver dominated the Toronto Blue Jays last night throwing a complete game in the Angels 6-1 victory. Kendry Morales and Mike Napoli each homered while Maicer Izturis drove in a pair. Napoli in particular has continued to be hot at the plate since he's been able to play everyday getting his rest at the DH position. Here's a look at the numbers.
Regarding Izturis. LA Times blogger Steve Bisheff writes that Mike Scioscia chose to go with the steady play of Macier instead of the massive potential in Brandon Wood. He hopes it doesn't cost the team down the road.
The Angels braintrust held a closed door meeting with struggling reliever Justin Speier after his tirade during Wednesday nights blow out loss against the Jays. I'm of the opinion that Speier should be cut once roster moves need to be made regarding John Lackey, Ervin Santana & Vladimir Guerrero, possibly as soon as next weekend.
Speier just hasn't been reliable since 2007 and moreover, what kind of message does it send to the others in the clubhouse that you can perform badly at your job, have emotional outbursts and still collect a large paycheck. If Arte Moreno was willing to eat big contracts from troubled non-contributors like Kevin Appier in the past Speier should be no different.
Outfielder Chris Pettit, left-hander Trevor Reckling and infielder Alexi Amarista were named the organization's players of the month for April. Check out the Angelswin.com prospect report for a look at this weeks performances.
