Angels announcer Rory Markas passes away

For the past eight seasons Angel fans have had the joy of hearing play by play announcer Rory Markas sign off with his catchphrase "Just Another Halo Victory!" on Angels radio and television games. He was also fortunate to make the call Angel fans had waited decades to hear.

"Erstad says he's got it! Erstad makes the catch! The Anaheim Angels are the champions of baseball!"

Sadly, Markas has died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 54.

Markas voice was all over the Los Angeles television and radio dial calling USC and Los Angeles Clippers games. Markas as well worked as a field reporter for KTTV & KCBS TV.

For his broadcasting work, Markas has several awards to his credit, including three Golden Mike Awards (for radio reporting), and two Associated Press Sportcasting Awards.

2009 was to be the year Markas was set to take over full time play by play television duties for the Angels. The Angels will miss him not only in the broadcasting booth but for his work in the community.
