Salt Lake Bees
The Good: Wow, so many to praise after Wednesday's game. Mark Trumbo is the prospect of the day so we'll start with him. Trumbo who played his third game in right field on the season went 3-5 with 2 home runs, a double and four RBI's. Corey Aldridge (DH) went 3-5 with two runs driven in. The leadoff hitter Peter Bourjos went 2-4 on the night with an RBI. Overall, the Salt Lake Bees clubbed 17 hits on the night. Sean O'Sullivan had a quality start (6IP, 3 ER) striking out nine Reno Aces. Rafael Rodriguez earned his third save on the season.
The Bad: Fernando Rodriguez gave up three earned runs in 2/3 innings of relief work.
The Noteworthy: Hank Conger was given the day off on Wednesday. Robb Quinlan (.188) had his best game to date with the Bees going 2-5 on Wednesday.
Arkansas Travelers
The Arkansas Travelers had the day off but their home opener is tonight against the Midland Rockhounds.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
The Good: Alexi Amarista went 2-4 on the night out of the leadoff spot. He's hitting .393 early on. Tyler Chatwood gave up just one run in five innings of work, fanning four, but he also walked four. He's ERA after two starts is 0.90.
The Bad: Amarista was caught stealing for the third time on the young season. He has two stolen bases to date. The entire Quakes lineup was shutdown by Modesto Nuts, losing 3-1, with just five hits on the night.
The Noteworthy: Will Smith takes on the Lancaster JetHawks tonight at Clear Channel Stadium aka 'The Launching Pad'. Without any setbacks, Ryan Chaffee should join the Quakes rotation by the end of the month
Cedar Rapids Kernels
The Good: Fabio Mesa Martinez couldn't equal his first start on the season, but five innings of one run ball isn't too shabby either. Martinez gave up seven hits, walked two and fanned four. John Hellweg pitched an inning and 2/3 of scoreless ball in relief. Mike Trout had two hits on the night and knocked in two. He also stole his second base on the season. 3B Luis Jimenez (AngelsWin.com 2008 #4 rated prospect) went 3-5 with 2 RBI on the night. Left fielder Matt Long also clubbed three hits.
The Bad: Casey Haerther, the Angels 5th round draft pick out of UCLA in last years' 2009 amateur draft has started off the season slowly, going 2-21 with no extra base hits. The lack of power is not going to cut it for a corner infielder. Despite a .350 batting average in Orem in '09, Haerther had no home runs in 206 at bats.
The Noteworthy: Randal Grichuk clubbed an RBI double and walked on Wednesday night. He was 0-13 before late inning extra base hit. 2B Jean Segura has a six game hitting streak and boasts a 1.024 OPS with four stolen bases.
*Prospect of the Day: Mark Trumbo, 1B/RF Salt Lake Bees
