This Day in Angels Baseball: April 3rd, 2000

Opening day April 3, 2000 saw the Anaheim Angels lose to the New York Yankees 3-2.  In the game, Tim Salmon hit a solo home run and Gary DiSarcina went 2-4 with a run scored. The 2000 season was the last DiSarcina played for the Angels organization. DiSarcina became a starting shortstop for the Angels in 1992 and was voted to the All-Star team in 1995 and was the Angels MVP in 1998. Disar wore number 33, an unusual number for a shortstop, as a tribute to Larry Bird, a hero of his hometown. He then changed to the number 9 for his remaining 4 seasons.
