Salt Lake Bees

The Good: Sean O’Sullivan threw his second quality start in the week, going 7.0 innings and only allowing 4 hits and 3 BBs. He allowed 1 earned run on a solo shot, lowering his ERA to 4.21.

The Bad: Peter Bourjos is in a 6 for 34 slide (.176) and was thrown out trying to steal. Mark Trumbo allowed his 2nd error of the season. Reliever Jeremy Hill allowed 3 earned runs in the 9th inning to give the fans a scare at the end of the game.

Noteworthy: Reliever Rich Thompson has yet to allow an earned run in 13.0 IP this season. He has only allowed 7 hits and 5 BBs, while striking out 11 for the season.

Arkansas Travelers

The Good: The pitching. After surrendering 2 runs in the 1st inning, the pitching held for the next 15 innings of shutout baseball. Walden, Aldridge, and Kohn combined for 6 innings and Taylor Wilding pitched 5 more scoreless innings to get the win in the 16th inning.

The Bad: The base stealing. Both Statia and Brossman were thrown out trying to steal second. And, to make matters worse, Brossman was also picked off of first base.

Noteworthy: Paul McAnulty (DH) hit his 7th HR in the 16th inning to drive in the winning runs. With 7 HRs already on the season, McAnulty is third in the Texas League in HRs. Considering the dimensions of Dickey-Stephens Park, that is quite an accomplishment.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

The Good: The hitting. For the second game in a row, the Quakes scored double digits in runs and had 15 hits. Gabriel Jacobo led the attack with 4 hits including two doubles, two runs scored, and two rbis. Dillon Baird had 3 hits, including a double, giving him 4 doubles in his past 5 games.

The Bad: Chaffee’s pitching. Although an improvement from his first start of the season (which occurred on April 30th), and he did manage to make it through 5 complete innings, he still struggled giving up 6 runs on 8 hits. To his credit, though, he did not walk a batter in the game and struck out 3 players.

Noteworthy: Roberto Lopez went 1 for 3 on the night with an SB, 2 runs scored and an RBI, giving him a Cal League best 19-game hit streak.

Cedar Rapids Kernels

The Good: Casey Haerther and Eric Oliver. Both homered in the game and together they accounted for six of the Kernels eleven runs. Additionally, they combined for seven of the Kernels twelve hits in the game.

The Bad: Bachanov’s relief pitching. Bachanov gave up 1 earned run in 1 IP, which is the 4th time in his past 6 appearances that Bachanov has given up at least 1 earned run in relief. Left handers are killing him, hitting .444 off of him.

Noteworthy: Earning his 5th win on the night, left-hander Patrick Corbin improved to 5-0 on the season, and took over the lead in wins for the Midwest League.

Prospect of the Day: Gabe Jacobo, 1B Rancho Cucamonga Quakes & Sean O'Sullivan, RHP Salt Lake Bees
