This Day in Angels Baseball: May 18th, 1988

May 18, 1988 the California Angels lost to the Baltimore Orioles 8-7 at Memorial Stadium. Mike Witt would take his fifth loss of the year to date giving up 8 runs in 6 1/3 innings. In the game Johnny Ray would hit his 15th double of the year on his way to 42 for the season, tying him for 6th all time in a single season for Angel players. Ray was traded to the Angels by the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of August, 1987 for minor league players Miguel Garcia and Bill Merrifield. Ray's best overall year would come with the Angels in 1988 where along with his 42 doubles he would drive in 83 runs and bat .306, making his only All-Star appearance that year as an Angel.
