May 4, 1962 the Los Angeles Angels would beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 at Dodger Stadium. Dean Chance picked up the victory in relief, beating Hoyt Wilhelm. Leon Wagner would hit a home run in the game, his 9th of the season. Wagner was traded to the expansion Angels in 1961from the St. Louis Cardinals and played his first season as a starter with the Angels. Wagner would play for the Angels from 1961-1963 averaging 30 home runs and 92 RBI over that time. 1962 was his best year with the Angels when he hit 37 home runs (third highest in the American League) and drove in 107. Wagner would be selected to both All-Star games that year (two were played in 1962) and was the MVP of the second game. Only Troy Glaus, Vladimir Guerrero, Reggie Jackson and Bobby Bonds hit as many or more home runs in a season as an Angel than Leon Wagner.
