AngelsWin.com Minor League Report: 6-10-2010

Salt Lake Bees
The Bees had the day off on Wednesday.

Arkansas Travelers
Box Score

The Good: The Travelers stole five bases between two doubleheader contests on Wednesday, but if you're looking for something really good here from the Travs, you'll have to wait another day. See below!

The Bad: The team, particularly the offense! The Travelers played two games on Wednesday against the Northwest Arkansas club and were shut out in both contests. While both games were shortened (just seven innings for doubleheaders in the minors), the Travelers managed just six hits in both games, none of which were extra base hits, all singles.

Noteworthy: Tommy Mendoza pitched for the first time in six weeks after being activated off the DL and  he gave up two runs on one hit in four innings of work, while walking four. Mendoza didn't strikeout a batter.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
Box Score

The Good: Tyson Auer went 3-3 with a home run (2), but he did get caught stealing for the 11th time on the season. Darwin Perez (.276) led off the game and went 2-5 with a triple. Gabe Jacobo (.302) went 3-4 with an RBI. Angel Castillo hit his fourth home run of the season with his only hit in four trips to the plate. Matt Shoemaker notched another quality start, going six innings and giving up three  runs. He did strikeout eight, giving him 79 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings. Jose Perez and Andrew Taylor pitched the final three innings of relief, giving up no runs and allowing just one hit, while striking out five.

The Bad: Alexi Amarista has just two hits over his last five games, which has seen his batting average slip to .333 on the season.

Noteworthy: Orangel Arenas takes the ball tonight for the Quakes for the third time since his promotion from Cedar Rapids. Arenas went a solid six-plus innings in his last start, giving up just two runs, while striking out six.

Cedar Rapids Kernels
Box Score

The Good: Mike Trout went 3-4 with a double and triple, raising his batting average to .368. Casey Haerther continued his hot hitting by going 2-3 with a triple and two runs batted in. Haerther also walked in the contest. Jose Jimenez clubbed a three-run homer with his lone hit on the night. Tyler Skaggs (2.55) went five innings and gave up one earned run on five hits, while striking out five. Tyler Kehrer (5.62) pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits, while walking just one. Hellweg saved his 7th game of the season with a scoreless ninth, striking out two.

The Bad: 3B Michael Wing is hitting just .233 for the Kernels with no home runs and just two extra base hits.

Noteworthy: Through 58 games played, Mike Trout has been a sensation at the plate and on defense. Trout has yet to commit an error on the season and has run down many balls in the gap, coming in from centerfield and even some catches going toward the fences, robbing would be extra base hits off the wall.

Prospect of the Day: Mike Trout, CF Cedar Rapids Kernels
