June 9, 1967 the California Angels beat the Detroit Tigers 4-0 at Anaheim Stadium. Don Mincher would hit a two run home run and Jose Cardenal would score twice to lead the Angels scoring. George Brunet would pick up the win (only his second against nine loses), throwing a complete game shut out, allowing 3 hits and striking out 8. Brunet was sold to the Los Angeles Angels by the Houston Astros in August of 1964 and would become a mainstay in the Angels starting rotation until he was sold to the expansion Seattle Pilots in July of 1969 (Pilots would be baseballs only one year franchise). Brunet would lose an Angels club record 19 games in 1967, despite throwing 7 complete games, 2 shutouts and having a 3.31 ERA that year. Brunet would mostly be a hard luck pitcher for the Angels, lacking run support a good part of his starts. During the years 1965 through 1968, Brunet would average 33 starts, 226 innings, over 7 complete games and 3 shutouts with a 3.03 ERA but his record was 46-60 over that time. In 1968, Brunet would lose 17 games despite having 8 complete games, 5 shutouts, a 2.86 ERA and a 1.056 WHIP. His 1.202 WHIP ranks 4th all-time for the Angels, and his 14 shutouts is tied for 4th with Chuck Finley in an Angel career.
