On July 11, 1967 Anaheim Stadium would host it's first All-Star game in front of 46,309 fans in attendance. The games starting pitchers were Dean Chance (now with the Minnesota Twins) and Juan Marichal, lasting a record 15 innings, which would later be tied in the 2008 game, before being won by the National League
2-1 on a Tony Perez (named game MVP) homer in the top of the 15th. 12 pitchers were used in the game, recording a record at the time 30 strikeouts before Don Drysdale would eventually get the win and Catfish Hunter took the loss. All three runs scored were from solo home runs, Brooks Robinson (AL), Dick Allen (NL), then Perez's (NL) eventual game winner. Future Angel Rod Carew was the first ever rookie to start at second base and this game was the first of his 18 All-Star game appearances. The Angels were represented in the game by shortstop Jim Fregosi, 1-4 in the game; first baseman Don Mincher, 1-1; and pitcher Jim McGlothlin, 2 innings, no runs, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts. Angels manager Bill Rigney was also selected as a coach for the game by manager Hank Bauer of the Orioles.
