Interview by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
On a day when the Angels formally announced the 5-year extension with Jered Weaver, the Angels made another important, but less expensive, move. The IE 66ers, in the midst of a playoff hunt, announced that Randal Grichuk, the Angels' 1st round pick in 2009 (24th—one ahead of Mike Trout) joined their team for the remainder of the season.
AngelsWin.com caught up with Grichuk before his first game with the 66ers to find out more about his Minor League career and what it was like seeing Mike Trout, the player selected by the Angels after him in the 2009 draft, make it to the Major Leagues.
When healthy, Grichuk has posted some strong numbers, particularly demonstrating power. In 2010, he posted a .295/.335/.565 line with 39 extra base hits in only 251 at-bats. Having just turned 20 years old earlier in the month, his power is ahead of the curve.
