Salt Lake - The Bees dropped a heart breaker 9-7 in 10 innings. Jeremy Moore is padding his case to be a September call up. He blasted his 14th home run in the 4th inning and later added a double to bring his average to .299. Efren Navarro also had a good game - 3 for 5 with a double. He may be a September call up depending on what Branyan does in the next couple of weeks. Ryan Brasier worked 2 shutout innings, but Horacio Ramirez gave up a 3 run walk off home run in the 10th inning.
Arkansas - 25 year old super-sub guy Dwayne Bailey had a big game, going 3-4, but it wasn't enough as the Travs lost 8-4. Starter Andrew Taylor was really knocked around again. He walked 6, struck out just 1, and gave up 8 runs in 3.1 innings. In relief, Loek Van Mil (who should really, really be in the bigs) went 3.2 scoreless, striking out 4 and walking just 1. His ERA is now 1.82 overall, and 0.67 in his last 27 innings. Robert Fish (who could also help out the bullpen) had another 1 2 3 inning after Van Mil. One bad note: Luis Jimenez is 0 for his last 11.
Inland Empire - Day off. Tomorrow, lefty Max Russell starts.
Cedar Rapids - Randal Grichuk is on fire. Today, he went 2-4 with the hits being a triple and a double. He is 6 for his last 14, with 5 of those hits being for extra bases. This hot streak has shot his average up to .230. Outfielder Justin Bass went 2-4 with 2 doubles. In the future we could have a Trout, Bass and Fish. Starter PJ Jang went 7 quality innings, surrendering just 2 runs, and walking none. Donn Roach and Bryant George followed up Jang's performance with shutout innings as the Kernels won 6-2.
Orem - The Owlz on Monday showcased some of the very best talent they have to offer. Starter Nick Maronde (3rd rounder in this years' draft) went 6 dazzling innings. He allowed just 3 hits, 0 runs, 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. His ERA now sits at a cool 2.04 and he has 39 strikeouts in just 35 innings. Taylor Lindsey continues to be a hitting machine, roping 2 more hits today. His average is now up to .377. The soon to be 20 year old second baseman could really open some eyes next year in IE. Frazier Hall blasted his 8th home run which bumped his average to .376, just a notch below Lindsey's.
AZL Angels - Jean Segura continued his rehab, going 2-2 and playing 5 innings as scheduled. He is very close to re-joining the 66ers, possibly this weekend. Kirby Young is hitting .414 since being signed by the Angels as a free-agent a few weeks ago. Rehabbing reliever Francisco Rodriguez got hit hard again, and his ERA is now 8.44... In the AZL. Outfielder Andrew Workman stayed red hot, collecting 2 more hits on Monday.
DSL Angels - Off as Hurricane Irene approached.
Prospect of the day: Nick Maronde
