Jerome Williams to Start Opening Day for 66ers

Right-hander Jerome Williams Makes His Return to the Inland Empire Thursday

San Bernardino, CA – Angels starter Jerome Williams will begin the 2012 season with a rehab assignment pitching opening day for the Inland Empire 66ers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Thursday, April 5th, with full coverage from Rancho Cucamonga beginning at 6:55 PM on the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pregame Show on the 66ers flagship station, 1050 KCAA.

Williams had a remarkable comeback year in 2011 with the Angels. After going 7-2 with a 3.91 ERA for AAA Salt Lake, Williams numbers improved in 10 big league appearances. Williams was 4-0 with a 3.68 ERA for the Angels.

This will be Williams second stint with the 66ers and the third time in his career pitching in the California League. Williams made three starts for the 66ers in 2008, going 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA, but in 2000 while with San Jose he was fifth in the California League with a 2.94 ERA and a razor thin .201 batting average against.

Williams is currently rehabbing a sprained left hamstring, but when healthy is expected to compete for a spot in the Angels highly acclaimed rotation.

Inland Empire 66ers tickets are on sale now both at the 66ers box office and online at http://www.66ers.com/. The 66ers will host rival High Desert Thursday April 12th to open the home schedule.
