Travis Witherspoon Interview with AngelsWin.com

By Dave Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer and Brian Waller, AngelsWin.com Columnist
Get used to the name Travis Witherspoon Angel fans because it’s a name you will be hearing a lot of for the next several years. For those not familiar with Witherspoon, he was selected by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim out of Spartanburg Methodist College in the 12th round (No. 381 overall) of the June 2099 First-Year Player Draft.

Witherspoon has been described by Angels Manager Mike Scioscia as an athletic player with plus speed who can play center field and who has a lot of potential.

The 23 year old outfielder is coming off of a season where he had a combined 13 home runs, 52 RBI’s and an impressive 46 stolen bases for the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Inland Empire 66’ers. Witherspoon began the 2012 season with the 66’ers and looks to be picking up right where he left off; going into Monday’s game he was hitting .302 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI’s and 3 stolen bases in his first 10 games.

Recently, Dave Saltzer and I were able to catch-up with Witherspoon at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, CA prior to the 66’ers home opener against the High Desert Mavericks. Watch below as we discuss a variety of topics with Witherspoon ranging from his base running to his hot start to the 2012 season.
