Welcome back everyone to Inside the Numbers. To kick us off I hope to keep a weekly tab of the most valuable Angels, as told by Fangraphs's Wins Above Replacement (WAR) calculation.

Name     -   WAR
Mike Trout - 1.6
Torii Hunter - 1.2
Mark Trumbo - 1.0
Howie Kendrick - 0.5
Maicer Izturis - 0.5
Alberto Callaspo - 0.4
Peter Bourjos - 0.4
Chris Iannetta - 0.3
Kendrys Morales - 0.2
Vernon Wells - 0.0
Albert Pujols -  -0.2
Bobby Wilson - -0.5
Erick Aybar - -0.6

I don't think anyone would've predicted this at the start of the season. Young guns Trout and Trumbo are leading the offense, with Hunter making a surprising contribution as well led by an unusually strong defensive UZR rating.

The bottom of the list shows where the Angels weaknesses lie. Vernon Wells has been useless again, despite the home runs. His injury was a stroke of good luck for the Angels who were able to replace him with the far superior Mike Trout. Iannetta wasn't bad at all due to the high amount of walks he accrued, but his replacement Bobby Wilson has been terrifying bad. Aybar and Pujols have been worse than useless as well, though Pujols looks to have finally turned it around.
