Angels Jered Weaver Placed on 15-Day DL: Expected out for 4-6 weeks | Richards to the rotation?

ANAHEIM, CA – The Angels Tuesday announced right-hander Jered Weaver, removed from Sunday’s game with an initial diagnosis of a strained left elbow, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left non displaced radial head fracture (elbow).   Weaver's D.L. placement is retroactive to April 8.  It is anticipated he will miss at least four weeks.  At the same time, the club announced RHP Dane De La Rosa is being selected to the roster from Triple-A Salt Lake, and transferred LHP Andrew Taylor from the 15-day DL to the 60-day list (left shoulder labrum tear).  Today’s transactions were announced by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

Weaver, 30, suffered the injury Sunday evening while avoiding a sixth-inning line drive off the bat of Mitch Moreland in Texas.  Though the ball did not strike the Northridge, CA native, he twisted his left elbow and arm in bracing his fall as he avoided the line drive.

De La Rosa, 30, was acquired from the Tampa Bay organization last March 27 in exchange for RHP Steven Geltz.  He spent the majority of the 2012 campaign playing for Tampa Bay’s Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls. The Torrance, CA native posted an 0-4 mark with a 2.79 ERA (21 ER – 67.2 IP) and 87 strikeouts in 54 games. In 13 career professional seasons, he owns a 17-12 overall record with a 2.66 ERA (77 ER – 261 IP) and 298 strikeouts. Originally selected in the 24th round of the 2002 draft by the Yankees, De La Rosa has logged a 10.95 ERA (15 ER – 12.1 IP) and 13 strikeouts over 12 career big-league games.
