2013 Outlook: This should be an interesting year for "ErNasty" Frieri, coming off an impressive debut in 2012. Apparently Ernesto has been developing a changeup that he feels comfortable with in addition to his electric fastball and his above average slider.
Although the pitch mix should help him strike more batters out, the thing that Frieri needs to be careful of is limiting the amount of walks that he gives up. I think this one issue, above all others, will make a real impact on Ernie's success this season.
Beyond the walk issue his command and control of his pitches will also contribute to his success and failure in a high profile relief role. Since Madson is starting off the year on the DL, Ernesto will be the de facto closer for the time being and he certainly has a complete lack of fear facing any batter which is a good attitude to have if you are the 9th inning stopper.
Look for Ernesto to provide a key relief role again for the Angels this year. His fastball has fantastic movement and deceptiveness which will continue to fool batters!
