SEATTLE – It might have been fun while it lasted, but the Angels’ hold on first place in the A.L. West was short-lived, their 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners before 45,974 at Safeco Field dropping them back into second place, a game behind the Mariners.

Angels starter Jarrod Washburn saw the end to his personal 12-game winning streak, but it wasn’t because he didn’t pitch well. Washburn (12-3) pitched a complete game, allowing all three runs but only four hits.

The big blow was a two-run home run by Edgar Martinez in the fourth inning.

The Angels out-hit the Mariners, getting nine hits, including two each from David Eckstein and Brad Fullmer. But they failed to come up with clutch hits, going 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position.

Mariners starter Joel Pineiro improved to 11-4, allowing only a sacrifice fly by Adam Kennedy in 6 1/3 innings.

SEATTLE – The Angels moved back into a first-place tie with the Seattle Mariners with a dramatic 1-0 victory over the Mariners before 45,634 at Safeco Field.

Angels starter Kevin Appier and Mariners starter Jamie Moyer locked horns for eight innings, neither pitcher budging and handing the ball to their respective bullpens in the ninth.

The Angels managed to push across a run against Mariners closer Kaz Sasaki in the top of the ninth, and Troy Percival shut down the Mariners in the bottom of the ninth for his 23rd save of the season and the victory.

Tim Salmon opened the ninth for the Angels with a single and went to second on a single by Garret Anderson. The baserunners moved up to second and third on a wild pitch, but Troy Glaus struck out for the first out of the inning.

Shawn Wooten, on the disabled list most of the season, followed with a deep sacrifice fly to score Salmon and provide the margin of victory.

Love to hear what you think!
