Interview Conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
One of the players who generated a lot of buzz both with the
Angels and with Angels fans is Jose Rondon. At just 19, he has shown advanced
hitting and fielding skills while playing a premium position (SS). He has a
good blend of power and speed, and an advanced understanding of the strike
zone. Over the course of the season, he finished with a 30:31 BB:K ratio in 68
games.
On the season, Rondon ranked in the top 10 for the Pioneer League
in hits, doubles, walks, stolen bases and rbis. He hit almost the same at home
as he did on the road (.294 vs. .293), and almost the same against righties as
he hit against lefties (.297 vs. .281).
At 6'1", Rondon has room to fill out and add power. That may
take him away from shortstop, though there's no need to move him from there
right now--he's a plus defender.
