Interview conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
One pitcher who really opened some eyes during Spring Training this year was Victor Alcatara. Pronounced "all-KAWN-truh", he lit up the radar guns, hitting triple digits several times. This was partially how in only his second season of professional baseball, and at age 20, the Angels brought him straight to Orem rather than the AZL Angels club.
With an arm like that, fans would think that Victor has been pitching for a long time. That's not the case with Victor. He came to the game late, so, there will be some struggles as he learns how to control his gift and masters the finer points of pitching. There is no need to rush him through the system. But, once he does gain the in-game experience and command, there's a talent there that's ready to explode.
Graciously translated by Yency Almonte, Victor talked with AngelsWin.com about his observations from pitching in the Dominican Summer League and the differences between those players and the batters he faced in Orem.
