A day after posting 11 runs on 10 extra base hits, Angels batters were stifled by Tigers starter Max Scherzer who allowed just one run — a J.B. Shuck solo blast to start the game — on three hits while striking out nine Halos over seven innings. Albert Pujols accounted for the the Angels’ second run with his 498th career home run in the top of the ninth.
