Around the Halo 5/4/2009

The Angels will be taking on AL West rival Oakland to finish up a 3-2 road trip after being rained out yesterday in New York. Los Angeles is coming off of an 8-4 win in the Bronx on Saturday lead by another outstanding outing from Matt Palmer. In a hopeful sign, relievers Jose Arredondo and Scot Shields pitched well.

The Angels bullpen will receive a boost as lefty Darren Oliver returns tonight. To make room on the 25 man roster, Fernando Rodriguez was optioned back to AAA Salt Lake City. It's also possible that when Kelvim Escobar returns it will be as a reliever. The possiblity of being able to add Escobar, Moseley, Loux or Palmer to the pen by June if a definite plus for the Angels.

Over the weekend much has been written about the positive start Kendry Morales has gotten off to. Mike DiGiovanna, Bill Plunkett, and our own Chuck Richter all take a look at the switch hitting first baseman's first month as a starter for the club.

Angel players have enjoyed picking Bobby Abreu's brain since he joined the club this winter.

Keep an eye on the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes tonight as Ervin Santana makes his first rehab assignment. Tomorrow night in Salt Lake City it will be John Lackey's turn.

The rain-out will allow the Angels to keep their rotation on track.
