Salt Lake Bees
The Good: Peter Bourjos clubbed a triple and the DH Michael Ryan went 2-4 with a double.
The Bad: Michael Ryan was the only Salt Lake Bee to notch more than one hit. Sean O'Sullivan wasn't very good, giving up four earned runs in four innings of work. O'Sullivan gave up six hits, walked one and struck out just one.
The Noteworthy: Hank Conger who opened the season as the DH, was behind the dish on Friday night. He went 1-4 on the contest, with an error (catcher interference).
Arkansas Travelers
The Good: The Travelers had four hitters in the lineup with two hits (Romine, Perez, Moore, Brossman). Romine in just two games sports a .571 batting average after clubbing three hits on opening night. He also stole a base, his first of the season.
The Bad: Southpaw Jayson Miller who took the loss on the night gave up four runs in five innings of work. The Travelers have lost the first two games of the season on the road to the Oakland A's Double-A affiliate, the Midland Rockhounds.
The Noteworthy: Jordan Walden pitched a scoreless inning of relief and struck out two batters, giving up just one hit. Walden figures to share eight and ninth inning duties with Michael Kohn and Ryan Aldridge this season.
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes
The Good: DH Roberto Lopez went 3-5 on the night for the Quakes. Robert Fish earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings late in the game.
The Bad: Chris Scholl blew the save and cost Scott Kazmir (rehab) the win on the night after giving up three hits in an inning and 2/3. The runs were charged to Kazmir, so Scholl still has a scoreless inning streak going dating back to last year.
The Noteworthy: Scott Kazmir and Reggie Willits were in uniform for the Quakes on Friday night. Kazmir went 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. Kaz struck out six. Willits went 2-3 with a double and a run scored. He's hitting .333 in two games thus far.
Cedar Rapids Kernels
The Good: Fabio Martinez Mesa shined on Friday night. The hard throwing righthander pitched five scoreless innings, giving up two hits and three walks, but struck out 11 Beloit Snappers -- including the Twins #1 prospect by Baseball America, outfielder Aaron Hicks. Carlos Ramirez went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI's and Jean Segura went 2-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
The Bad: Mike Trout went 0-4 as the leadoff hitter and is hitting .111 after two games. Third baseman Luis Jimenez is still looking for his first hit on the season. The tall hard throwing reliever John Hellweg gave up three earned runs in just a 1/3 of an inning, nearly costing Fabio and the Kernels the win.
The Noteworthy: Jonathan Bachanov pitched a scoreless inning, fanning two on the night. Pat Corbin gets the start tonight for the Kernels.
