On opening day April 4, 2008 the Angels lost to the Texas Rangers 11-6. The Rangers at one point took a 11-0 lead until the Angels scored 6 in the bottom of the ninth inning. 2008 saw some Angel milestones set that year. Starting the 2008 season the Angels had some injuries and pitcher John Lackey started the year on the disabled list. The Angels still remained at or near the top of the AL West throughout April and by May 13 had taken over the division for good on their way to their first 100 win season. The .617 winning percentage as the Angels went 100-62 was also a team record. Part of the Angels success in 2008 was the play of closer Francisco Rodriguez, who had recorded 21 saves before the end of May. The Angels finished the break for the All-Star game with a 57-38 record, with K-Rod notching 38 saves. Rodriguez would go on to break the single season saves record of 57 set by the White Sox Bobby Thigpen in 1990 with 62 saves on the year.
