May 19, 1995 at Comiskey Park the California Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 6-5. Tony Phillips would go 3-3, scoring 2 runs and batting in 2 with a home run and double and Jim Edmonds would also hit a home run in the game to lead the Angels scoring. Troy Percival picked up the win in relief (his first as an Angel) and Lee Smith would pitch the final inning for his 8th save of the season. Lee Smith came to the Angels signing an over $2.5 million two year free agent contract after the 1994 season. In 1995, Smith would record 19 straight saves from April 28 through June 25 (a major league record at the time) before blowing his first save on June 28. He would go on to save 37 games for the Angels that year and be selected to his 7th and final All-Star game (one of only four players to be in the All-Star game for four different teams). His 37 saves in 1995 ranks number 10 in a single season for Angel pitchers. Starting 1996, the Angels would insert Troy Percival in the closers role and Smith would be unhappy in the setup role, so on May 27, Smith was traded to Cincinnati for Chuck McElroy.
