May 2, 1996 in Oakland the Angles went on to beat the A's 3-1. Jim Abbott would go 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run and striking out 6. In the game Rex Hudler would hit a home run, his 4th of the year at that point. In 1996, Hudler, nicknamed the "Wonder Dog" would have his most productive year with the Angels hitting 16 home runs in only 302 at bats while batting .311 for the year. Hudler would play for the Angels from 1994-1996 during his 13 years in the majors where he was a first round draft pick of the New York Yankees in 1978. Rex was known to have played every position on the field except pitcher and catcher in his career. While 1996 was Hudler's last year playing for the Angels he would later become a color commentator for the Angels radio and television broadcasts for 11 years.
