May 1, 2002 at Jacobs Field the Anaheim Angels beat the Cleveland Indians 7-2. That year at the beginning of May the Angels record was at 11-14 but this game would be the start of a good May in their World Championship year, going 19-7 for the month and outscoring opponents 166-90, averaging almost 6.5 runs per game. In this game Jarrod Washburn would pitch 7 innings for the win, giving up 5 hits and striking out 3. Washburn, who was selected by the the Angels in the 2nd round of the 1995 draft, would have his best year as an Angel in 2002 going 18-6 with a 3.15 ERA. Washburn would finish 4th in the American League Cy Young voting that year.
