June 2, 2004 at Angel Stadium the Anaheim Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 10-7. Ramon Ortiz picked up the win in relief and Frankie Rodriguez pitched the last inning for the save. David Eckstein would go 5-5 and score 4 runs and Vladimir Guerrero went 4-4, scored 2 and drove in 9, with 2 home runs and a double. The Angels would sign Guerrero to a 5 year $70 million contract at the end of the 2003 season. In his first season with the Angels, Guerrero would hit 39 home runs (3rd all time for an Angel), score 124 runs (led AL that year and a club record), have 126 RBI's (3rd all time for an Angel), have 366 total bases (led AL and tie Darin Erstad for club record) and bat .337. He also had 206 hits and a slugging percentage of .598, which were 2nd among Angels players in a season. Guerrero would help lead the Angels to their first American League West title since 1986 (World Series championship year in 2002 the Angels would get a wild-card berth) and win the American League MVP award that year.
