New Spot Featuring “Hall of Fame” by The Script to Air During World Series
Counting Crows to Perform Tonight as Part of MLBFanCave.com Concert Series
Major League Baseball announced today that the MLB Fan Cave will return for a third season in 2013, following a year of tremendous growth in social media activity, fan engagement and video content, as well as a highly successful concert series featuring top musical acts. Fans can begin applying today at MLBFanCave.com to be a “Cave Dweller” and vie to watch all 2,430 games inside the MLB Fan Cave next year, while meeting current and retired baseball greats, popular recording artists and entertainers. With more than 1.2 million combined followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the MLB Fan Cave has built a large community of baseball fans that the Cave Dwellers will have a chance to interact with during the 2013 season.
A new spot highlighting the MLB Fan Cave and calling for entries will debut this week (click here to view) and air during each World Series game on FOX, in addition to running on ESPN and MLB Network. The spot features international music sensation The Script and their smash hit “Hall of Fame” from their recently debuted album “#3” as the music bed. The band, who opened for Paul McCartney at the first-ever concert at Citi Field, also performed at the MLB Fan Cave at its Postseason launch party as part of the MLBFanCave.com Concert Series (footage from that concert available here).
Grammy and Oscar nominated music legends Counting Crows will perform a concert at the MLB Fan Cave tonight to celebrate the return of the MLB Fan Cave and the start of the World Series. Beginning at 5:30pm at the MLB Fan Cave, the group will perform tracks off of their new album “Underwater Sunshine” plus their classic hits. The MLBFanCave.com Concert Series has featured top artists including Nas, Jason Aldean, The Fray, OneRepublic, Far East Movement, The Avett Brothers, Ziggy Marley, Neon Trees, Daughtry and many more (footage from these and other concerts available here).
More than 400 celebrity visitors including nearly 200 current MLB players as well as musicians, actors, former players and others have visited the MLB Fan Cave since its launch in 2011, participating in more than 500 online videos for fans to share via social media.
Some of the biggest stars in baseball, including Jose Bautista, Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano, R.A. Dickey, Ryan Howard, Derek Jeter, Adam Jones, Matt Kemp, Andrew McCutchen, David Ortiz, David Price, CC Sabathia, Chase Utley, Justin Upton, Justin Verlander and David Wright have visited the MLB Fan Cave, while celebrity guests have included Kevin James, Kate Upton, Jesse Eisenberg, Nick Offerman, Craig Robinson, Charlie Sheen and Eric Stonestreet.
Some of the most popular MLB Fan Cave videos in 2012 included Bronson Arroyo and Aroldis Chapman singing a new version of “Red Hooded Sweatshirt,” Miguel Cabrera starring as “Miggy Poco” in his own telenovela, Justin Verlander surprising a special young fan, Ryan Dempster and Derek Holland performing dueling Harry Caray impersonations, and pranks involving David Price and James Shields, Cameron Maybin, and Buck Showalter, Jim Johnson and Darren O’Day.
More than 22,000 fans applied to be a Cave Dweller for 2012, and the MLB Fan Cave began the season with a group of nine winners who each chronicled their experience through videos, blogs and social media. Along the way, six were eliminated based on a combination of a fan vote and a panel of MLB judges, with the three remaining Cave Dwellers – Ashley Chavez, Ricardo Marquez and Kyle Thompson – winning a trip to the 2012 World Series, where one of them will be crowned the ultimate winner for 2012.
The MLB Fan Cave is a unique event space mixing baseball with music, popular culture, media, technology and art.
