By Geoff Stoddart, AngelsWin.com Director of Social Media
("Ooooooooohhh … we're halfway there. Oh, oh!!! Livin' on a prayer!")
Well ... here we are. We've reached the halfway point of the 2013 season. And how are we doing?
38 wins and 43 losses. 9.5 games out of first place in the AL West. 7 games back in the Wild Card race. Not exactly the place most Angels fans thought we'd be at way back in Spring Training. Yet, not exactly a place where you throw up the white flag and say, "That's it! We're out! Season over!"
It's a tough spot. What's a Halo fan to do?
Can the team do it? Will the team do it?!?! And do you, the Angel fan, have the intestinal fortitude to lay your heart on the line and risk having them break it? ("For love - well give it a shot.")
Let's be honest: Do we have a choice? If you're the type of fan that plugs into AngelsWin.com, you're already an addict. Whether you like it or not, whether you want to or not, and whether you'll admit it or not … you're already in. ("You live for the fight when it's all that you've got!")
As the Director of Social Media for AngelsWin.com, I'm responsible for Tweeting, Facebooking and memeing. {Side note: Is that a word? I mean, what is one doing when one is creating a meme? Memeing, right? Oh well, whatever. We'll just go with it. Memeing it is.} Over the first half of the year I've been … well … I'm not sure one word can sum it up. Grumpy? Yes. Emotional? Yes. Certifiable? Probably. Ok … yes. I've spent most of the season feeling like "the union's been on strike." You know what I mean? "It's tough … so tough!"
I've had to answer to friends and family: "What's up with your team?" "How's that Josh Hamilton signing working out for you?" "Are you seriously still wearing wearing all the gear?"
Yeah. It's been that kind of a year. But darn it … it's not over!
I know, I know … the six string is in hock and things are looking bleak. But ladies and gentlemen, this is baseball! Strange things happen! Magic things happen! And when things look bleak, and Gina's dreaming of running away, well … that's when "we've got to hold onto what we've got!"
The love of this this team! The love of this game! The hope of a Red October! ("Take my hand, we'll make it I swear!")
There's a lot of baseball left to be played, so settle in! It's going to be a wild ride! Even if we're just "Livin' on a prayer!"
Note to the reader: In addition to being AngelsWin.com's Director of Social Media, Geoff Stoddart is also a noted 80's rock enthusiast. "Back in the day," Geoff was a member of the Orange County rock band "Chase." His hair was … well … see for yourself: So you'll please forgive him if he took this opportuntiy to dispense with a little 80's rock lyric flavor!
